The soldier got lost late Monday and was discovered Wednesday morning by a passing motorist on Highway 115, according to a Wednesday release from Fort Carson. The highway borders the post.
“The soldiers of our brigade are tremendously relieved that our soldier has been recovered safely,” said Col. Dave Zinn, commander of 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, said in the release. “The Soldier has displayed physical and mental toughness as a Soldier and persevered through a challenging situation."
The soldier was competing for the Expert Field Medical Badge, the release said, when he or she went missing Monday night from the post’s land navigation course, on the opposite side of the installation from the highway where the soldier was found.
Emergency personnel immediately transported the soldier to the on-post hospital for medical evaluation.
A multi-day search team included local authorities from three different counties, Army and civilian helicopters and more than 1,700 soldiers, the release said.
