The death of Spc. Iris Armstrong, a soldier from the 82nd Airborne Division, is being investigated as a homicide, officials said Friday.

The FBI is leading the investigation with help from special agents from Army Criminal Investigation Command, said Chris Grey, a spokesman for Army CID.

Armstrong, 24, was found dead about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in her home in the Nijmegen Community government housing area at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

"We do not believe there is any threat to the Fort Bragg community at this time," Grey said. "No further information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation."

Armstrong, of Columbia, South Carolina, was a human resources specialist assigned to the 189th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade.

She joined the Army in October 2012. After training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Armstrong was assigned in April 2013 to the 82nd Airborne Division.
