Ex-soldier pleads guilty to wife’s gruesome murder

LINDEN, N.C. — A former soldier with post-traumatic stress disorder has pleaded guilty to killing his wife at their North Carolina home.

Jesus Guillermo Mora will spend between 36 and 49 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree sex offense Monday, according to a report in The Fayetteville Observer. He had agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder to avoid facing a trial for first-degree murder, according to District Attorney Billy West.

Mary Louise Mora’s body was found in February 2016 by deputies responding to Jesus Mora’s call. An autopsy revealed she suffered bite marks throughout her body and the partial detachment of her arms and neck, among other injuries. She also had multiple injuries to her genital area, according to the autopsy.

The wounds were caused by a sharp object, court documents show.

Jesus Mora told deputies at the time that something bad had happened, but he wasn’t sure it was real. Court documents say he was taking medication for PTSD after an Afghanistan deployment.

West said PTSD and other mental health issues factored into the case.
