A 27-year-old soldier was found dead on Saturday in a Colorado hiking area, the Army said.

Sgt. Jeffrey Bushroe was discovered by another hiker near Crater Lake in the Maroon Bells mountain area, according to The Aspen Times.

Bushroe sustained several injuries to his head and leg, the paper reported.

He was a human intelligence collector with the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson, according to the Army.

Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Bushroe joined the Army in 2013 and served a five-month deployment to Afghanistan in 2016. He had been stationed at Fort Carson since March 2015.

His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Combat Action Badge and Parachute Badge.

The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances of Bushroe's death. No further details were available on Wednesday.

He was believed to be hiking alone, sheriff's office investigators said in The Aspen Times report.
