A 24-year-old soldier was found unresponsive in his barracks room at Fort Hood, Texas, on Thursday, according to an Army release.

Criminal Investigation Command is investigating the death of Spc. Zackary Phillip Partin, a radio operator who had been assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division since May.

Partin joined the Army in November 2012, according to the release. He earned the Army Achievement Medal and Good Conduct Medal, among other awards.
