Every year, soldiers serving abroad get the chance to record video messages to send home to their friends and families.

More than 1,800 are rounded up on this interactive map put together by the Defense Video Imagery Distribution System, from troops based in all 50 states and 15 countries.

Here are some highlights from deployed soldiers, from Kosovo to Kuwait.
