WASHINGTON — A U.S. service member was wounded in action in Logar province, Afghanistan, Monday evening.

The servicemember’s wounds are not life threatening and he was transferred to Bagram Air Base for treatment where he is currently in stable condition, said Capt. William Salvin, a spokesperson for Operation Resolute Support, the train, advise and assist mission in Afghanistan.

Details of the incident are not known. However, Logar province has been a region of unrest of late. According to Pajhwok Afghan News, an independent news agency, Taliban fighters have killed scores of civilians in the province over the past couple weeks.

“The enemy in Logar is the Taliban,” Salvin said.

In a statement released on the Taliban’s Twitter page, spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the resurgent militant group had killed two American soldiers and injured one in Logar province. But Taliban statements concerning American fatalities in the region are typically propaganda, and Military Times could not verify the statement.

Salvin pushed back on those claims, calling them “false.” There were “no U.S. casualties or coalition casualties anywhere in theater since the one U.S. WIA [ wounded in action] yesterday,” Salvin told Military Times.
