Military firm plans to lay off Fort Rucker workers

Officials for L-3 Army Fleet Support say the company is cutting fewer than 75 workers. Firm representatives told The Dothan Eagle that many of the workers were notified Thursday.

AFS maintains Army aircraft. Its parent company, L-3 Communications, received a nearly $2 billion contract in 2012 for Fort Rucker helicopter maintenance and logistics. Workers at Army Fleet Support briefly went on strike in April.

AFS announced layoffs of 50 workers in April 2013 and 70 workers in August 2013.
