The Army announced Friday the names of soldiers who have been selected for promotion to sergeant and staff sergeant in May.

There will be 3,090 promotions to sergeant and staff sergeant May 1 for promotable specialists and sergeants of the Regular Army.

Also slated for May 1 advancements to those ranks are 60 Army Reserve soldiers assigned to the Active Guard and Reserve program.

Cutoff scores issued by the Human Resources Command authorize 1,091 promotions to staff sergeant for the Regular Army, and 1,999 to sergeant.These soldiers will come from a pool of 13,958 eligible sergeants, and 11,669 specialists and corporals who have been boarded by their units.

The AGR promotions will go to a soldiers in a pool of 201 eligible sergeants, and 34 eligible specialists.

Additional promotions would have been authorized for the Regular Army if is more soldiers in chronically short-handed military occupational specialties were on the service-wide select lists for E6 and E5.

As of late April, there were 12 short-handed MOS for staff sergeant, and 22 for sergeant.
