A Fort Hood, Texas-based officer died Saturday in El Salvador, where he was serving with a civil affairs team, base officials said Wednesday.

Capt. Lakito Tarraze Bynum, of Oakland, Mississippi, died of "possible natural causes" while with a four-person team supporting the Civil Affairs Engagement Program, according to information provided by Fort Hood. He'd been deployed since February.

No other information on his death was available. The incident is under investigation, according to a Fort Hood news release.

Bynum, 36, with 81st Civil Affairs Battalion, 85th Civil Affairs Brigade, entered service in 1996 and was commissioned in 2009, the release stateds. He'd previously deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and once in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

He'd received the Bronze Star Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal and five Army Commendation Medals among other honors and awards, according to the release.

Bynum was one the first of three Fort Hood-based soldiers to die in a three-day span, according to the installation: Warrant Officer Sean Michael Young, 35, died Sunday of an apparent gunshot wound at his off-base residence, and Spc. Jason Darryl Kane, 24, died Monday after the pickup truck he was riding in crashed.
