A 22-year-old soldier died in a Saturday morning car wreck near Fort Hood, Texas, base officials confirmed Tuesday.

Spc. Brian Michael Luckey, 22, was the passenger in a 2006 Mazda RX-8 that crashed in a field near Harker Heights, the Killeen Daily Herald and other local media reported. The driver of the car — also a soldier, according to reports — was hospitalized with broken bones. The crash remains under investigation by local police.

Luckey, of Yreka, California, enlisted in 2012 and had served with 3rd Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, since November of that year, according to an installation news release. The cannon crewmember had been was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal among other honors, the release stated.

He is the fifth Fort Hood soldier reported dead by the installation since June 27, and the third of those soldiers to die in a vehicle-related incident.
