Monthly promotions for Regular Army NCOs will take a year-end tumble in December, with only 1,448 advancements authorized to the ranks of sergeant through sergeant major.
Cutoff scores and senior NCO sequence numbers released in late November authorize 23 promotions to sergeant major Dec. 1, along with 32 advancements to master sergeant, 62 to sergeant first class, 348 to staff sergeant and 983 to sergeant.
The sergeant major promotions will be made from the 2014 list and will leave only 71 names on that roster. No promotions are scheduled from the July 2015 list, which has 343 names remaining.
The master sergeant promotions will be made from the February 2015 list, leaving 924 names, and the sergeant first class authorization from the June 2015 list, leaving 5,185 names.
The staff sergeant promotions will go to soldiers in a group of 14,209 promotable sergeants, and the sergeant advancements will go to soldiers in a group of 13,389 promotable specialists.
There would be additional promotions to sergeant and staff sergeants if more soldiers in certain shortage military occupational specialties, called STAR MOS, were boarded and in promotable status.
As of late-November there were 20 STAR MOS for sergeant, and 13 for staff sergeant as follows:
- Sergeant: 09L, 12D, 12P, 13F, 13M, 19K, 29E, 31D, 35G, 35L, 37F, 46Q, 46R, 68B, 68F, 68L, 68U, 68V, 68Y and 91A.
- Staff Sergeant: 09L, 12C, 12M, 13M, 13R, 15W, 18B, 18E, 25D, 25E, 38B, 51C and 94T.
