West Point cadet sentenced to 30 months on drug charges

WEST POINT, N.Y. — A second West Point cadet in two months has been convicted on drug-related charges.

The U.S. Military Academy said 22-year-old Christopher Monge of Allentown, Pennsylvania, was convicted by a judge Wednesday during court-martial proceedings. He was sentenced to 30 months confinement, dismissal from the U.S. Army and forfeiture of pay. His class graduates this month.

Monge was among seven cadets charged in a months-long drug investigation. Charging documents allege a group of cadets purchased drugs elsewhere and brought them to West Point in 2015 and 2016.

Monge was charged with wrongfully possessing and distributing alprazolam and oxycodone and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.

In April, another of the seven cadets was convicted of drug offenses during court-martial proceedings and dismissed from the Army. Tevin Long was sentenced to 30 days confinement.
