A 37-year-old soldier died mid-flight on Oct. 10 as he traveled from Hawaii to Alaska, according to a Monday release from U.S. Army Alaska.

The circumstances surrounding the death of Warrant Officer 1 Chadrick Demond George are under investigation, the release said.

“The U.S. Army Alaska command center was notified by state officials after the flight landed at Ted Stevens International Airport,” USARAK spokesman John Pennell told Army Times.

George had traveled to Hawaii on leave, Pennell said.

He was a member of 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Richardson-Elmendorf near Anchorage, Alaska.

The warrant officer enlisted in 2003 and had been assigned to USARAK since July 2015, the release said.

He had previously been stationed in Korea, Germany and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, earning an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

His other awards and decorations include a Bronze Star, five Army Commendation Medals, three Good Conduct Medals and four Overseas Service Ribbons.
