Two 7th Infantry Division sergeants were found dead Thursday in what officials say are unrelated incidents.

Officials at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, found Sgt. Joseph Martin dead at his on-post quarters Thursday.

The 25-year-old was from Clarkston, Michigan and served in the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment as an infantryman, according to a 7th ID press release.

“Sgt. Martin was a critical member of our team and an inspiring leader, Lt. Col. Donald Neal, the battalion commander, said in the release.

Also Thursday, Sgt. Lewis Clay was found dead at an off-base location, officials said.

Clay, 28, served in the 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment and worked in signals.

He was originally from Milledgeville, Georgia.

“Sgt. Lewis Clay was a great team member, he contributed greatly to the cavalry squadron and he will be missed,” regiment head Lt. Cold. Michael Berriman said in a release.

No other details were available Friday, and officials said both incidents are under investigation.
