A Fort Drum soldier died Saturday in a car accident while visiting family in New Mexico, a 10th Mountain Division spokeswoman confirmed to Army Times on Wednesday.

Spc. Lyric Young, 22, was an infantryman with the division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team, according to personnel records provided by Lt. Col. Tonya Stokes.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Spc. Young,” said brigade commander Col. Paul Larson in a statement. “Spc. Young will truly be missed by his Commandos family.”

Young had been home for the first time since December, family members told the Mohave Daily News. The Bullhead City, New Mexico, native joined the Army in 2014 and deployed to Afghanistan in 2016.
