Man gets life in prison for 2018 shooting death of soldier

OMAHA, Neb. — An Omaha man convicted in March of first-degree murder in the 2018 death of a U.S. Army soldier has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Omaha World-Herald reports that 36-year-old Jason Devers mocking clapped his handcuffed hands when his sentence was handed down Tuesday and told a prosecutor she was “going to hell” for “sending the wrong man to prison.”

Prosecutors say Devers and another man who was the gunman accosted 27-year-old U.S. Army Sgt. Kyle LeFlore outside an Omaha bar in January 2018 with the intent to rob him. LeFlore was in Omaha visiting relatives for the holidays when he was shot.

Police say a gold chain with LeFlore’s DNA on it was found among Devers’ belongings.
