A 21-year-old soldier was found dead Sunday in his Fort Hood, Texas, barracks room, installation officials said Tuesday.

Pvt. Robert Jeffrey Snear had been assigned to the Hood-based 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th MP Brigade, since January 2014, according to a news release. Snear, of Coleman, Michigan, entered service in June 2013 and had earned the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

The incident is under investigation, the release states.

Snear's death is the second reported by Fort Hood this month; Spc. Brenton Wade Blume was found dead Aug. 2 in Belton Lake after what witnesses told law enforcement was a cliff-diving mishap.
