The Army is investigating the death of a soldier from the 82nd Airborne Division who was found dead Wednesday at her on-post residence.

Spc. Iris Armstrong, 24, was found about 10:30 a.m. in her home in the Nijmegen Community government housing area at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The circumstances surrounding her death are under investigation.

Armstrong, of Columbia, South Carolina, was a human resources specialist assigned to the 189th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade.

"Spc. Armstrong was an outstanding soldier who was well-liked throughout the battalion and at Garrison Operations," said Lt. Col. Jeremy St. Laurent, commander of the 189th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, in a statement. "She always had a smile on her face, and her attitude and character epitomized what the Army looks for in our leaders. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to her family, friends and loved ones during this very difficult time."

Armstrong joined the Army in October 2012. After training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Armstrong was assigned in April 2013 to the 82nd Airborne Division.

Her awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon and the Army Service Ribbon.
