The U.S. Army as it recommits to Arctic operations is experimenting to find the capabilities it will need and taking pages from European countries accustomed to operating in the harsh cold.
“The airborne brigade at JBER will retain its airborne status but the Stryker brigade up here [at Wainwright] will be turning in their Stryker vehicles and transforming into a light infantry brigade."
“We’re not adding or subtracting force structure — it’s really more of a new sense of common identity for the soldiers up there," the Army secretary said.
