The “Six Triple Eight” was honored Tuesday with the Congressional Gold Medal, following a long-running campaign to recognize their efforts.
The positions will remain airborne billets, but soldiers will no longer be required to maintain jump status or receive jump pay.
Squads had grown to 15 Marines during infantry battalion experiments in recent years.
