Army investigating death of Fort Bragg soldier

Sgt. Rashon Gordon was found dead on post June 10.

Gordon, 33, was a tactical satellite team chief with the 50th Signal Battalion, 35th Signal Brigade.

The circumstances of his death are still ​under investigation, said Maj. Crystal Boring, a spokeswoman for the XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg. She declined to provide further details.

Army Criminal Investigation Command is conducting the investigation.

"Sgt. Gordon was dedicated to the soldiers of Charlie Company, 50th ESB and the Army," Lt. Col. William McDowell, commander of the 50th Signal Battalion, said in a statement. "We send our sincerest condolences to Sgt. Gordon's family, friends and fellow soldiers in this sad time."

Gordon, of Deland, Florida, joined the Army in July 2001 as a satellite communications systems operator-maintainer, according to information released by Fort Bragg.

He was assigned to C Company, 50th Signal Battalion in October 2013. He deployed to Kuwait from 2008 to 2009 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Gordon's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

He is survived by his wife and four children.
