A 21-year-old soldier found dead Monday morning at Fort Carson has been identified.

Pfc. Kyle J. Walls of the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) was found in the barracks on Fort Carson, Colorado, according to a statement from Fort Carson officials.

Walls was posthumously promoted from private to private first class.

"It is always hard to lose a part of our military family," the statement said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Walls family and friends during this very difficult time."

Walls, of Oklahoma, joined the Army in November 2015 and was a microwave systems operator/maintainer. He had received the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

The cause of death is currently under investigation.
