Soldier pronounced dead at military base in South Korea

An Army sergeant who resigned his commission to enlist and serve on active duty was pronounced dead Sunday in South Korea, according to officials.

Sgt. Adam David Wright, 32, was found unconscious and later pronounced dead at Camp Casey, a U.S. base a short distance from the border with North Korea, according to the Stars and Stripes.

Officials responding to Stripes did not divulge a cause of death and said that Wright’s death remains under investigation.

Wright is survived by his wife and their 18-month-old daughter.

“Sgt. Wright was an exemplary [noncommissioned officer], and we share the pain his family feels during this time of loss,” regiment commander Lt. Col. Wilbert Hsu said in the statement. “He served his battery as a leader, friend and brother. Our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time, and we remain strong to honor Adam and his life.”

Wright, a former first lieutenant in the Arkansas National Guard, resigned his commission to become an active-duty soldier.

Wright’s awards and decorations included the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

He joined the Army in June 2016 from Hill Air Force Base, Utah. He served as a multiple launch rocket system gunner, assigned to the 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 210th Field Artillery Brigade.

He had been stationed at Camp Casey since February.
