Eligible lieutenant colonels and certain majors in of the Army Reserve will be considered for assignment to battalion-level command positions that become vacant in 2017 by a board that meets Aug. 17-31.

The zone of eligibility for the annual panel includes Active Guard and Reserve and non-AGR officers of the Army Promotion List and Army Medical Department competitive categories.

The application window for the opt-in board is May 6 to June 12. The on-line My Board File record review application will be available June 18 to Aug. 10 for officers who are in the zone of consideration.

Officer Evaluation Reports submitted for this board must be received by at the Human Resources Command by Aug. 10, and official photos by Aug. 12.

The zone of eligibility will include majors who will be in a primary zone of consideration for an Army Reserve lieutenant colonel promotion board that meets in fiscal 2017.

If selected for command but passed over for promotion to lieutenant colonel, an officer will be administratively removed from the command list.

Specific eligibility requirements for the upcoming board are:

• Active Guard and Reserve officers must have O-5 dates of rank of Jan. 1, 2013, or later, and mandatory removal dates of Oct. 1, 2019, or later.

AMEDD lieutenant colonels (other than AOC 67 and 70 officers) with mandatory removal dates of Sept. 13, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2019 may request an MRD extension that would allow them to complete a 24-month command tour.

The standard mandatory removal date MRD for lieutenant colonels is 28 years of commissioned service.

• The non-AGR category for this board includes Troop Program Unit, Individual Ready Reserve, Individual Mobilization Augmentee, Army National Guard and Active Component officers.

National Guard and Active Component officers must transfer to the Army Reserve no later than June 1 to be eligible for command board consideration.

While nNon-AGR officers are eligible for board consideration without regard to dates of rank, provided their MRD will allow them to serve a 24-month command tour.

• In addition to the requirements cited above, Candidates for command must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, be enrolled in the 10-month Intermediate Level Education Course, or have credit for completion of the non-resident phase of ILE, or have credit for completion of at least 50 percent of the legacy Command and General Staff Officer’s Course.

Army Medical Department officers, other than Medical Service Corps officers in the functional area 70-series or 67J area of concentration, are exempt from the military schooling requirement.
