The Army has officially embarked on its effort to relocate some 6,500 junior officers and warrant officers who it says are no longer needed in aviation.
A Sept. 17 memo signed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth directs the “formal disestablishment” of the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services.
The move aims to realign the force toward the use of unmanned drones instead of manned aviation platforms and will occur over fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
