A soldier from the 101st Airborne Division was arrested Thursday after he allegedly fired two shots near Campbell Army Airfield on Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

No one was injured.

The soldier is accused of entering Hangar 8 on the airfield at approximately 11:30 a.m. and firing two shots, according to information from the 101st Airborne Division. It's unclear whether the shots were fired into the air or at people in the hangar.

When military police responded to the scene, the soldier, whose name has not been released as of Thursday evening, fled the hangar in his car.

While leading military police on a pursuit, the soldier hit another vehicle but was able to continue his flight to his on-post residence, according to information from the 101st Airborne Division.

When he arrived home, the soldier tried to escape on foot, but he was subdued and arrested.

When police searched the soldier's car, they found more weapons and ammunition, according to information released by the 101st Airborne Division.

A motive for the shooting is unknown, according to the 101st Airborne Division, but the investigation is ongoing. The soldier is in the custody of Army Criminal Investigation Command.

No one was injured during the incident, which lasted 30 minutes, according to the 101st Airborne. Gates onto Fort Campbell were closed during the incident; they were reopened after the soldier was arrested.

"We consistently train for a myriad of situations and contingencies," said Brig. Gen. Scott Brower, the acting senior commander of the 10stt Airborne, in a statement. "Today, that was tangibly demonstrated by our law enforcement officials and workers within the incident scene. The potential for tragedy was there, but due to the rapid response and readiness of everyone involved, a tragedy was successfully averted."
